Stories from Latin America’s Movement for the Freedom to Marry

Since 2010, when Argentina became the first Latin American country to legalize marriage nationwide, progress has spread quickly. In addition to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico and Uruguay have legalized marriage for gay and lesbian couples. Also Bolivia now recognizes “Union Libres” for same-sex couples. Today, more than 70% of people across Latin America live in a country with the freedom to marry.

Momentum continues to build across Latin America as same-sex couples, their families, and a growing chorus of allies share their stories and explain why it’s time to ensure respect – and marriage – for all families.
